Brits still shying away from haggling, claims expert

When it comes to buying, selling and auctioning, haggling is often a key skill and one that, according to haggling expert and auctioneer Philip Serrell, is one which Britons often shy away from learning.

According to Mr Serrell, who is an antiques expert and television presenter who has appeared on shows such as Bargain Hunt and Flog It!, this is a national trait which shows no sign of abating.

A poll of 1,209 British adults recently commissioned by Santander found that Brits are still reluctant to haggle over certain items in order to achieve a better price.

Mr Serrell suggested a number of tips for would-be hagglers, saying: “The key thing about haggling is you’ve got to do it with a smile on your face, and you’ve got to do it so that both parties are happy.

“If you go and completely nail someone to the floor with a deal, they’re never going to want to do business with you again.”

We can assure you at borro that, for one, both parties will be happy with the deal and, secondly, there will be no nails hammered in any floors either. Boxes ticked.
