High diamond prices are forever, it would seem

Diamonds have long been considered a girl’s best friend, but when a pair are worth over $4 million (£2.54 million) you would think they’d be a popular piece of property for anyone.

The earrings, which weigh in at 25.39 carats and 23.12 carats, were highly anticipated by many enthusiastic bidders and none more so than the eventual buyer who made the earrings the most expensive in the world.

Vickie Sek, director of Christie’s, Asia, told CNTV : “Once again it proved that even though the economic crisis or the market is not that stable, all the collectors, investors, they still go for the best gem quality stones.”

It wasn’t just the earrings that sold well either. A Chinese ‘famille-rose’ bottle and a series of gems and stones also sold for mega bucks. The auction was said to show that the market for luxury goods is still booming.
