Six year old brings the house down
Well, it’s not a house, but a 14-storey building. And by bringing it down, we mean blowing it up.
Jayden Halliwell, a six year old boy from Queenstown, New Zealand has been nominated to push the detonation button to demolish a Christchurch building.
Eight demolition companies won a Trade Me auction for $26,000 (£17,545) to implode the Radio Network House building, before giving the opportunity to the Child Cancer Foundation.
Jayden, who has cancer of the kidney, was nominated to push the button.
According to Trade Me, the auction was the third most viewed auction of all time, with 459,420 views, 113 bids and 243 questions asked.
The money raised is to go towards the restoration of buildings damaged by earthquakes, via the Canterbury Earthquake Heritage Buildings Fund (CEHBF). The government pledged to match dollar for dollar whatever was raided at the auction, so the charity will receive $52,000 (£35,090).
Jayden will push the button at 8am, local time, on Sunday.
