Original cover art inked by comic book legend Todd McFarlane broke all records when it sold at auction from $657,250 (£418,391).
The auction took place in Beverly Hills on Thursday of last week, where the original 1990 cover art for Marvel Comics’ Amazing Spider-Man #328 became the most valuable piece of comic book art ever sold.
Todd Hignite, vice president of Heritage Auctions, said: “This is an earth-trembling cover illustration and an equally magnificent price.
“McFarlane’s art brims with the raw energy that sky-rocketed McFarlane to the top of the industry and, now, the top of the auction world.”
The cover features Spider-Man battling the Hulk.
Another art piece, the original art from Spider-Man #1 was also sold for $358,500 (£228,213). Both pieces were belonged to a collection owned by Martin Shamus, a Long Island comic shop owner.
Overall, the auction is expected to break $9 million, which would make it the highest-grossing comic and comic art auction in history.
