Here's how we make our value judgments:
The name and vintage of the wines you want to borrow against
The condition of the labels and cork
If wine is in original casing, and whether it has been stored professionally in climate-controlled cellars – and any storage history you have
The provenance – including purchase information from auction or wine merchants, or even renowned collectors
Any photographs or even videos of the bottles in your cellar
We doubt that you want to deliver the wine yourself – and have it bounce around in your trunk. Both of us would prefer for us to pick it up, and we have a cadre of specialist wine transporters who are experienced, secured, insured and more trustworthy than the president's Secret Service detail in Brazil.
In special cases, if your wine is already in storage with a professional wine storage facility, we may be able to leave it there for the duration of the loan, rather than move it to one of our partners.
With Borro you have the confidence of end-to-end insurance. That means your fine wine is protected from the moment it leaves your hands, until you have it safely and securely returned to you, once your loan is repaid.
The minimum insurance is the fair market value of your assets; never less, often more. This is provided by both our courier and storage partners, as well as by our own insurance, which is provided by underwriters who are part of Lloyds of London. Need we say more?
For a special collection of your fine wine by a professional wine handler you are insured up to $500,000
When your fine wine arrives to our partners' storage facilities, it is barcoded with a unique ID code and photographed. It will then be stored under the most exacting conditions imaginable, at wine storage facilities that monitor humidity, temperature and air quality – as well as light exposure and vibrations – with state-of-the-art obsession. Our partners include Winecare, Liquid Asset Storage and Domain Wine Storage.
While your fine wine is with us for the appraisal as well as for the duration of the loan it is fully insured up to its fair market value.
