While this includes everything from a Rembrandt etching to a Jeff Koons rabbit, the principles are the same. We take into account the artist, the uniqueness and provenance of the piece, the strength of the attribution, the supply/demand balance and any data we can locate from auction, gallery, and private-sale records including databases like artnet. Each piece of fine art must have a minimum value of £40,000.
We accept a broad range of assets in this category including 18th century French armoires, 19th century faience tureens, Art Deco bronzes and modern chandeliers. Our in-house valuers have extensive experience with these assets and we collaborate with a global network of specialist valuers to ensure that our valuations are based on current market conditions. Each antique must have a minimum value of £40,000.
You have a number of options for getting your fine art and antiques to us:
Collection: We can send a professional art handler to pick up your fine art or antiques and deliver them to us with the highest level of attention and security. Of course, we'll arrange this at a time and place convenient for you
Bring your art to us: Your time is as valuable as your assets. So make an appointment and one of our expert appraisers, along with your account manager, will be ready to meet & greet and appraise your fine art or antiques as soon as you show up
Home appraisal: If you have a high-value piece of fine art or antiques or you are looking to use multiple assets to secure your loan, one of our expert appraisers can come to you to value your assets on location
With Borro you have the confidence of end-to-end insurance. That means that your fine art and antiques are protected from the moment they leave your hands, until you have them safely and securely returned to you, once your loan is repaid.
The minimum insurance is the fair market value of your assets; never less, often more. This is provided by both our courier and storage partners, as well as by our own insurance, which is provided by underwriters who are part of Lloyds of London. Need we say more?
For a special collection of your fine art or antiques by a professional art handler you are insured up to £2 million
If a Borro employee collects your fine art or antiques or one of our valuers takes your items with them to our valuation centre after a home valuation, you are insured up to £500,000
In special cases we will make bespoke arrangements to get your fine art or antiques to us. We will always ensure your items are fully covered
When your fine art and antiques arrive to our valuation centre they are handled under CCTV, barcoded with a unique ID code and photographed.
While your fine art or antique is with us for the valuation as well as for the duration of your loan, it is fully insured up to its fair market value. It will be stored in our highly secure vaults or with our specialist partners such as Ward Thomas.
When your fine art or antiques are with us, it is subject to both protection and specialist care. And when you repay your loan in full, we guarantee that we will safely return your fine art or antiques.
Before placing your fine art and antiques in storage for the duration of the loan, your items will be initially wrapped in the medium appropriate tissue (acetate/acid free), then packed within a custom-made crate for maximum protection.
Exceptional pieces of art will be crated in a custom-built wooden case. Where needed, your fine art and antiques will be stored in a temperature-controlled environment.
