We’ve all seen the Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) trailer where in which the Avengers take their turns to try to pick up the Hammer of Thor. But how much would you be willing to pay to be able to effortlessly pick up the original Mjolnir from the movie Thor (2011)?
The Marvel Multiverse has seen a lot of financial success in the last 10 years, from the rise of Iron Man (2008) and Captain America (2011) to the success of the Avengers (2012). The first Avenger’s film smashed the box office and currently resides at 3rd place in the list of highest grossing films of all time, so it’s no surprise that the Avenger’s movie memorabilia from their origin films has proven to be so successful at auction.
The Avenger’s: Memorabilia from their Origin Films
The Captain America Hero Suit – $190,000
If the name of the costume doesn’t impress enough then the price it sold at auction for might. This is the suit that actor Christopher Evans wore while he took down the Hydra base and had his final climactic showdown with the Red Skull. It went on sale at the Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) movie auction.
Captain America’s Shield – $20,000
Encased in ice, the symbol of Captain America, with which he has thrown into many a bad guy’s personal space with varying degrees of success, was originally estimated to only be worth $4,000 – $6,000. It looks as if the hero’s iconic Vibranium weapon in the new Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) film trailer is to be will be broken, but this isn’t something that the character hasn’t had to go through multiple times before, within the comic books.
Mark II Autopsy Iron Man 2 Suit – $110,000
The same suit which Tony Stark’s good friend Lieutenant Colonel James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes took from the military in order to construct War Machine. This 75 inch tall fibre glass movie prop is one of the few Official Iron Man suits to be offered at a public auction.
Super Soldier Vial – $3959
This prop vial of Super Soldier serum was used in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), to make Steve Rogers into the all American hero he was chosen to be by Dr. Erskine and was purchased on EBay for a surprising sum price.
Thor’s Hammer – $19,000
The might hammer Mjolnir, which had no problem conjuring a few bolts of lightning and smashing ice giants in Thor (2011). This stunt hammer has a foam head and has been expertly painted to look like the real deal. The prop is 17 inches in length, but we wonder how much it actually weighs. Do you think you could lift Thor’s hammer?
The Avengers #1 Comic – $250,000
The very first Avengers comic went on auction at the Metropolis Collectibles in 2011, not long before the release of the first Avengers film. There are some comparisons to be drawn from the first Avengers comic and the first Avengers movie, those predominantly focused around the character Loki. Loki is the main villain of the comic book story and coerces Hulk into a rampage as he does on Shield’s Floating Fortress in the first Avengers film.
