If you could live anywhere in the world other than the UK where would it be?
I would not live anywhere else other than London. I love travelling, but my home will always be London. It is so cosmopolitan, cultural, full of arts, history and changing all the time with influences from all over the world, Why would you want to be anywhere else? The world is in London.
Describe the best day/night of your life?
When I was working for De Beers, in 2008 we took all our clients (diamond manufacturers) to the Venetian Diamond Mine in South Africa. When we arrived, early in the morning, we were met off the flights with all the local schools dancing and singing. They had been practicing for months and was even a complete surprise to us, the organisers. We were all in tears. Seeing these very successful, multi-billion dollar business owners completely moved emotionally by a group of 4-11 year olds, was something I will never ever forget.
Who is your business idol?
Jack Welch most definitely. He grew the company 4,000% during his tenure at GE. Drove innovation and created a learning centre for his leadership team which transformed the company approach and attitude. He understood the importance of growing people to grow a business.
Who would your dream dinner date be?
George Aligiah most definitely. The BBC war correspondence/journalist. I sat next to him on a number of occasions during a conference in South Africa and he was the most fascinating, down to earth person I have ever met. Embarrassingly, I did swoon a bit as he is incredibly good looking and so did half the woman at the conference! I still look up every time I hear him reading the news on the BBC.
- TV Show – The Good Wife – love all the legal drama’s going on
- Film – By far, what moved me the most recently was ‘The Theory of Everything’.
- Band – I’m a mixed bag on music so no particular favourites.
